Sananga & Sananga rapé

When was starting to travel to Brazil, about 10 years ago I heard stories about a rapé made with Sananga plant powder. The idea of this blend made no sense to me. Sananga is a liquid extract that’s used for eye treatment.
Why would somebody add powdered parts of this plant to make rapé ? All my contacts in rapé Brazil confirmed and said “these are two separate medicines and should not be joined together”.
There have been various sources selling this type of rapé with Sananga or at least claiming their rapé had Sananga in it. I always felt I did not want a rapé in my assortment where I have conflicting feelings.

Al good, no more conflict

With the knowledge that it is the Sananga root and bark ashes that make part of the blend all is in balance. Sananga ash and with all ashes in fact it’s about working with mineral salt. The healing properties come from here and the energetic imprint that migrated from the plant form to the ashes through the burning process.

About the Tribe

The Kuntanawa people (known as “the tribe of the babassu Palm or Babassu coconut”). They have always defended their spiritual tradition as their principle of existence.
They have always used plants that connect with the beings of the forest and the spirits. Thus learned how to heal the tribe with traditional medicine. To this day the Kuntanawa people keep their practices.

Tepi and Kuripe

Traditionally rapé is administered through a pipe made out of bamboo or bone. The Tepi is a blowpipe that you can use to administer another person. When receiving Rapé the other blows it through both nostrils. In general, the shape of the Tepi is straight, curved or V-shaped.
A different form is self-administration. For this, you use a Kuripe. The Kuripe has a V- shape and connects the mouth to the nostril. In this case, you blow the Rapé to yourself.

I sieve this rapé Sananga and all other snuff coming from my shop through a 120-micron high-grade stainless steel mesh. I also store the Rapé stock dry and in vacuum containers to prolong freshness and quality.

This results in.

  • an extremely fine powder.
  • a guaranteed consistent fineness
  • optimal absorption of the snuff
