This Rapé Ayo is my own creation. I have worked with rapé for about 10 years now. The next step of making my own rapé feels very natural to me. In the development and completion of this snuff I did not hold back. Besides Sabiá tobacco and Parika ash, this snuff also contains Aya in 2 forms and also Yopo, hence the name Ayo. The tobacco is infused with very old and wise aya. As an extra addition, it also has the dried and pulverized aya residue in it.

For people who like to go deeper, I made a different and stronger version of this type of rapé. The aya força I made and which can be found here is the fundament of rapé Ayo double. This snuff is not for everybody. If you are oversensitive to yopo it can block your nose for several hours.

Pure Yopo can be a strong entheogenic snuff if you can get potent seeds and prepare it in the correct way. The Yopo I am using is fully active and quite potent. The added amount of Yopo’s function is to deepen and broaden your experience. With a relatively low percentage of Yopo it brings just enough power to stay in balance with the other forces at work. This is a very potent Rapé that might not be for everybody. It also might sting/burn your nose more then you are used to.

About Banisteriopsis caapi/ Aya

This tropical vine can grow up to 30 meters in length, twining on other plants for support. Caapi vine can become old of age and up to 100 years and older. Banisteriopsis caapi, a vine, is the primary ingredient of Aya, a traditional medicinal tea from the Amazon region. A tea with just the caapi vine is called Aya. Some indigenous people distinguish more than 40 species Caapi vine. Indigenous shamans and others say that they can enter a different state of mind with an infusion of only the B. Caapi. This vine is seen by most of the 72 tribes as the “master plant” that provides concrete information about other plants. They claim that the vine is responsible for their excellent botanical knowledge.

Tepi and Kuripe

Traditionally Rapé is administered through a pipe made out of bamboo or bone. The Tepi is a blowpipe that you can use to administer another person. When receiving Rapé the other blows it through both nostrils. In general, the shape of the Tepi is straight, curved or V-shaped. A different form is self-administration. For this, you use a Kuripe. The Kuripe has a V- shape and connects the mouth to the nostril. In this case, you blow the Rapé to yourself.

Tepis receiving blessings from their creators

I sieve this Rapé Ayo and all other Rapé coming from my shop through a 120-micron high-grade stainless steel mesh. This makes an extremely fine powder. It’s labor-intensive but guarantees a consistent fineness, cleanness and optimal absorption of the Snuff. I store the Rapé stock dry and in vacuum containers to prolong freshness and quality.
